President Donald Trump ordered all federal agencies to stop using technology from artificial intelligence firm Anthropic. In a post on Truth Social, Trump mandated an immediate cessation of use for most government entities and established a six-month phase-out period for the Department of Defense.

The directive follows a public standoff regarding the company’s AI model, Claude. Anthropic refused Pentagon demands to remove safeguards that prevented the technology from being used for fully autonomous weapons and mass domestic surveillance.

The administration had previously threatened to designate Anthropic a supply chain risk if it did not comply with the removal of these ethical and safety restrictions. This order effectively ends the firm's business relationship with the federal government.
