Alphabet’s Waymo announced its expansion into Southeast Asia on September 18, 2026. The company plans to launch a fully driverless ride-hailing service in Singapore by 2028. Waymo is partnering with Singapore’s Ministry of Transport and Land Transport Authority to deploy the all-electric service.
An initial fleet of Jaguar I-PACE vehicles will arrive in the coming months. Waymo will initiate a readiness phase in 2027. Specialists will manually drive the vehicles to adapt autonomous systems to Singapore’s specific road and weather conditions.
The 2028 public launch is subject to regulatory approvals and will be available via the Waymo app. This move follows the company’s recent announcement of a 2027 entry into Tokyo.
A $16 billion funding round secured in February 2026 supports this international growth. Waymo is using the capital to scale its global fleet and footprint.
