Grab Holdings and WeRide launched Ai.R (Autonomously Intelligent Ride) in Singapore’s Punggol district. This initiative makes Grab the first ride-hailing provider in Southeast Asia to offer a driverless service in a residential area.
The launch follows a trial period involving more than 1,000 users. Test vehicles completed over 30,000 kilometers of autonomous driving during this phase.
The service currently operates with a safety operator on board and remains free to the public. Grab expects to commence full commercial operations in 2026.
The program includes training for Grab’s driver-partners to transition into new technical roles. These staff will serve as safety and remote operators for the autonomous vehicle fleet.
