IonQ received final regulatory approval to acquire SkyWater Technology, the largest U.S.-based semiconductor foundry. The transaction will officially close on July 31, 2026, following its initial announcement in January 2026.

The merger creates a vertically integrated quantum computing company. This structure secures a domestic supply chain for chip design, fabrication, and packaging.

IonQ intends to accelerate its technical roadmap and the development of fault-tolerant quantum computers through this acquisition.

SkyWater will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary under its current name. The entity will continue to serve existing commercial and defense customers as a pure-play foundry.
