The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Eli Lilly and Company’s Onswik (insulin efsitora alfa-gobe). This once-weekly basal insulin injection treats adults with type 2 diabetes.
The treatment reduces the injection burden by over 300 shots per year for patients switching from daily regimens. Approval followed the Phase 3 QWINT clinical trial program involving over 3,400 adults.
Onswik demonstrated non-inferior A1C blood sugar reduction compared to daily insulins glargine and degludec. This launch intensifies competition with rival Novo Nordisk in the diabetes and obesity markets.
Onswik has now secured four global regulatory approvals, including clearances in Europe, Mexico, and Japan. Eli Lilly expects the product to be available in the U.S. in the coming months.
