Johnson & Johnson received U.S. FDA De Novo marketing authorization for its OTTAVA Robotic Surgical System. The system is cleared for general surgery procedures, including gastric bypass and gallbladder removal. This authorization positions OTTAVA to compete directly with Intuitive Surgical’s da Vinci system.
OTTAVA is the first table-integrated soft tissue robotic system. The company claims this design provides a smaller footprint in operating rooms.
J&J plans an initial commercial launch with select U.S. customers. The company intends to expand into additional clinical indications and international markets. An investor call is scheduled for August 3, 2026, to discuss the development.
