At the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) conference, Eli Lilly reported that its oral GLP-1 drug Foundayo (orforglipron) was non-inferior to insulin glargine for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in the company’s largest and longest trial in type 2 diabetes. Foundayo also showed superior results for blood sugar control and weight loss.

Lilly also reported positive 48-week results from a phase IIb study of EloraTZP, an investigational combination drug. Among adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes, the highest-dose combination produced an average weight loss of 23.3% and an A1C reduction of 2.9%.

The findings reflect Lilly’s strategy of developing treatments that target multiple pathways in metabolic diseases.
