Novo Nordisk filed a lawsuit Tuesday in U.S. federal court against Eli Lilly. The suit accuses Lilly of false advertising and unfair competition regarding its obesity drug Zepbound and diabetes treatment Mounjaro.

Novo Nordisk alleges Lilly used outdated clinical trial data to claim treatment superiority. The complaint states Lilly compared its highest approved doses against lower, less effective doses of Wegovy and Ozempic.

Lilly allegedly omitted data from newer, high-dose Wegovy versions that show greater weight loss. Novo Nordisk seeks a court order for Lilly to withdraw the advertisements and launch a corrective campaign.

Analysts project the global weight-loss drug market will exceed $100 billion by 2030.
