Lockheed Martin signed a memorandum of understanding with Rheinmetall to co-produce the Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) in Germany.
The agreement, announced at the NATO Summit Defense Industry Forum in Ankara, marks the first time these missiles will be manufactured outside the United States. The move responds to the immediate demand for munitions in Europe.
U.S. and German governments support the partnership, which aims to establish a European center for ATACMS manufacturing, integration, and distribution.
Production of rocket motors and missile components will begin as early as 2027 at Rheinmetall’s facility in Unterluess. The initiative strengthens the defense capabilities and industrial base for NATO and allied nations.
