Mastercard announced a commitment to connect 500 million unbanked individuals and small businesses to the digital economy by 2030. This initiative follows the company’s integration of one billion people over the past decade. Mastercard also brought approximately 65 million small businesses into the digital economy during that same period.
The program aims to build financial resilience by providing access to credit and insurance services. Mastercard will expand its Essential Debit and Essential Prepaid programs into new markets to reach these goals. The company also plans to scale acceptance and issuance solutions specifically for small businesses.
Additional efforts include enhanced support for digital wallets and new tools for managing cybersecurity risks. The Global Financial Health Coalition will support these initiatives through partnerships with financial institutions, NGOs, and industry leaders.
