MDA Space will provide LEIA LiDAR sensors for the European Space Agency’s (ESA) Argonaut spacecraft. This mission represents Europe’s first independent lunar landing.

MDA Space UK will deliver two flight units for the spacecraft’s Hazard Detection and Avoidance system. These sensors enable the craft to autonomously select safe landing sites on the lunar surface.

The contract was formalized at the Farnborough International Airshow. This agreement positions MDA Space as a primary supplier for international exploration programs coordinated with NASA’s Artemis missions.

UK Space Minister Liz Lloyd cited the selection as evidence of Britain’s leadership in lunar technology. The Argonaut mission will transport cargo and scientific instruments to support a sustained human presence on the Moon.
