Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the platform will now take down videos filmed on Meta's smart glasses that feature the harassment of strangers in public. The policy specifically targets the growing trend of "pickup line" and obnoxious prank videos, where creators surreptitiously film people without their consent. Mosseri stated, "We don't want people to be surreptitiously taking videos of other people and harassing them and then posting them on our platform."
The move addresses rising criticism and privacy concerns about the glasses, which have been dubbed "pervert glasses" on social media. This content moderation update clarifies Instagram's community guidelines for wearable technology. In line with the new policy, Meta has already deactivated at least two large accounts that posted such content.
