Meta, Nvidia, Microsoft, IBM, and Palantir joined a coalition of over 20 technology companies to sign an open letter. The group advocates for open-weight AI models to expand access and foster competition.

The letter, titled Open Weights and U.S. AI Leadership, argues these models enhance innovation and national security. This appeal follows reports that the Trump administration may restrict Chinese open-source AI models.

Signatories suggest the U.S. should use model transparency to improve safety and cybersecurity instead of implementing bans. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang shared the letter in his first-ever post on X, stating that open models strengthen safety and cybersecurity.
