Meta Platforms has banned advertisements and paid marketing from ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, on its platforms in the US, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. The restriction also covers third-party campaigns that include links to TikTok.
The move escalates the rivalry between the two social media companies. Restricting ByteDance’s ability to promote its services on Facebook and Instagram could affect TikTok’s user acquisition costs and competitive position in digital advertising.
