Meta is discontinuing the virtual reality version of Horizon Worlds to scale back its metaverse strategy.

The app will leave the Quest VR store by March 2026. Access via VR headsets will end completely on June 15, 2026. Horizon Worlds will continue to operate as a mobile-only application.

Meta’s Reality Labs division has recorded nearly $80 billion in losses since 2020. This decision follows significant layoffs within that division just weeks prior.

Market reaction remains muted as analysts suggest investors already priced in the failure of the VR-centric metaverse.
