Meta Platforms began laying off hundreds of employees across Reality Labs, social media, and recruiting divisions. Management instructed staff in the wearables and ads units to work from home on March 25 ahead of the cuts.

The restructuring aims to reduce costs and pivot resources toward artificial intelligence. These actions follow reports that Meta may cut up to 20% of its workforce.

A 20% reduction would affect nearly 16,000 jobs. The company intends for these savings to offset billions in planned AI infrastructure spending.
