Meta is letting go of employees from the AI safety startup Virtue AI just four months after hiring them in June. A Meta spokesperson confirmed the decision, stating the arrangement "didn't work out as planned" and citing clashing work styles as the reason for the separation.
The team, which includes Virtue AI's co-founders Bo Li, Dawn Song, and Sanmi Koyejo, was brought on to enhance the safety and security of Meta's AI models. Despite the departures, Meta has stated that its Superintelligence Labs remains focused on AI safety. Virtue AI had previously collaborated with other major AI labs like OpenAI and Anthropic.
