Meta Platforms will shut down its Horizon Worlds virtual reality platform on Quest headsets by June 15, 2026. The company will remove the application from the Quest store on March 31. Horizon Worlds will transition to a mobile-only experience, ending the metaverse experiment that prompted the 2021 name change from Facebook.
The Reality Labs division has recorded nearly $80 billion in losses since 2020. Meta is now redirecting metaverse resources toward artificial intelligence development. The company projects 2026 capital expenditures between $115 billion and $135 billion. This forecast nearly doubles 2025 spending to prioritize AI infrastructure.
