Meta faces criticism from privacy advocates and Hollywood organizations over its new Muse Image AI tool. The feature generates images using photos from any public Instagram account. Users can tag public profiles in text prompts to create AI content featuring that person’s likeness without notification.
Talent agency CAA and performers union SAG-AFTRA strongly condemned the tool. They are demanding Meta switch from a default opt-out setting to an opt-in model. The organizations argue the current system infringes on the rights of individuals to control their own likeness.
SAG-AFTRA urged its members and all Instagram users to opt out of the feature immediately. Meta stated that accounts for users under 18 are excluded from the tool. Adults with public accounts must manually opt out through their privacy settings.
