An international group of plaintiffs sued Meta Platforms Inc. on Sunday. They allege the company falsely claims its WhatsApp messaging service is private and secure. The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.
The plaintiffs dispute WhatsApp’s central feature of "end-to-end" encryption. This encryption is designed to make messages accessible only to the sender and recipient.
Plaintiffs claim Meta can "store, analyse and can access virtually all of WhatsApp users' purportedly 'private' communications." They accuse the company of misleading billions of global users regarding the platform's security.
