Meta Platforms hired Dave Brown, a 20-year Amazon Web Services (AWS) veteran, to lead its data center expansion. Brown will report to Meta’s head of infrastructure.
The hire supports Meta Compute, a new initiative to monetize the company's computing resources. This service will provide external developers and businesses with access to GPU power and hosted AI models.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg confirmed that launching a cloud business is a serious consideration for the company. Meta plans to spend between $125 billion and $145 billion on AI data centers in 2026.
This strategy places Meta in direct competition with established cloud providers including AWS, Microsoft, and Google.
