Meta Platforms internally announced Avocado, its most capable pre-trained base model to date. The model completed its initial pre-training phase using vast datasets. Meta Superintelligence Labs reports the model already outperforms leading open-source alternatives.
Avocado remains competitive with leading AI models in knowledge, visual perception, and multilingual capabilities prior to final post-training refinement. The model operates with significantly higher compute efficiency than previous internal versions, including Llama 4 Maverick and Behemoth.
This development marks the first major milestone for Meta Superintelligence Labs. Meta formed this group to accelerate the company’s progress toward artificial general intelligence.
