Meta has introduced a new, free program called Facebook Verified, aimed at confirming that users are real people and not AI-generated bots or fake profiles. The system requires users to submit a short video selfie, which is then analyzed with facial recognition technology and compared against their existing profile photos to verify their identity. The process is designed to take only a few minutes.
Once verified, a badge will appear on the user's profile and in high-interaction areas like Facebook Marketplace and Dating. This initiative is distinct from the company's paid "Meta Verified" subscription service, as it does not require a fee and is specifically intended to enhance user safety and combat the rise of AI-driven scams and fraud. The feature will be rolled out in phases, starting in select markets.
