Meta is reportedly testing robots to automate manual tasks within its massive data centers as it seeks to lower labor costs amidst soaring AI infrastructure spending. The robots, sourced from vendors including ABB, Watney Robotics, and Kinova, are being evaluated for tasks currently handled by technicians, such as swapping cables and resetting servers.
The initiative is part of a broader push for efficiency and automation in Meta's rapidly growing data center operations. While still in an experimental phase, the move could eventually allow the company to operate its facilities with fewer human workers, raising concerns among some employees about potential job risks.
