OpenAI appointed Dave Dugan as Vice President of Global Ad Solutions. Dugan previously spent 12 years at Meta Platforms, most recently serving as VP of Global Clients and Agencies. He will report directly to OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap.
The hire underscores a strategy to monetize ChatGPT through advertising to offset high computing and research costs. OpenAI began testing advertisements on its free and lower-tier services earlier this year. This initiative aims to build a substantial advertising business and diversify revenue beyond existing subscriptions.
