Meta Platforms hired 19-year Amazon Web Services veteran Dave Brown to lead infrastructure and data center expansion. Brown previously served as a senior vice president managing Amazon’s core compute and machine learning services.
Brown will report to Meta’s head of infrastructure to develop Meta Compute. This potential cloud service would rent AI computing power to external companies.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently stated that a cloud business is definitely on the table. Companies reportedly approach Meta weekly for access to its AI models and computing capacity.
The move signals Meta’s intent to monetize its massive AI infrastructure investments. This strategy positions Meta to compete with cloud giants Amazon, Microsoft, and Google.
