AI coding startup Cursor launched Cursor 3, an agent-first platform designed to redefine the developer experience. The new interface allows programmers to delegate complex coding tasks to multiple autonomous AI agents. These agents can build, test, and demo features independently.

The platform shifts the developer's role from writing code to managing and reviewing agent output. This launch positions Cursor to compete directly with agent-based products like OpenAI's Codex and Anthropic's Claude Code.

The move responds to strategic pressure from major AI labs that have launched subsidized offerings. While Cursor initially integrated external models, it is now developing in-house models to gain greater independence and control.
