The European Parliament voted to postpone key deadlines for the EU AI Act. This extension provides companies with additional time to comply with the comprehensive regulatory framework.

High-risk AI systems used in critical infrastructure, employment, and law enforcement must now meet requirements by December 2, 2027. AI systems covered by existing product safety laws face a new deadline of August 2, 2028.

Lawmakers proposed the delay because essential technical standards and guidance were not expected by the original 2026 targets. The vote also included a provision to ban nudify applications that create or alter sexually explicit images without consent.

The approved proposals now move to negotiations with the EU Council to finalize the law.
