GitHub has announced that starting April 24, it will use interaction data from its Copilot service to train and improve its AI models. This data includes user inputs, outputs, code snippets, and other contextual information. The policy change will automatically apply to users of Copilot Free, Pro, and Pro+ tiers.

The change establishes an opt-out system, meaning users will have their data collected by default unless they proactively disable it in their privacy settings. Users who had previously opted out of data collection for product improvements will have their preferences retained. Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise customers are not affected by this update.
