Microsoft expanded its strategic partnership with AMD on Monday by deploying the Helios rack-scale AI system. The infrastructure powers frontier model AI inference for Azure customers and internal Microsoft services.

The Helios system integrates AMD Instinct MI455X accelerators, next-generation EPYC processors, and Pensando networking technology. This deployment increases infrastructure flexibility for Microsoft, which has historically relied on Nvidia technology.

Azure will also introduce new virtual machine instances featuring AMD 6th Gen EPYC CPUs. The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement.
