Microsoft and Spanish energy giant Iberdrola announced a new partnership focused on European Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and AI deployment. The collaboration aims to integrate AI initiatives directly into Iberdrola’s operational structure.
The agreement features two PPAs totaling 150 MW of wind energy. This power, sourced from two farms in Spain, will supply Microsoft’s datacenters and operations. The initiative supports Microsoft’s goal of achieving 100% renewable electricity consumption by 2025.
Furthermore, the partnership leverages Microsoft’s cloud and AI technologies to accelerate the digital transformation of the energy sector and enhance Iberdrola’s operations. This expansion builds on previous agreements in the United States, bringing the companies’ total contracted renewable capacity to nearly 500 MW globally.
