Microsoft appointed Ali Farhadi as corporate vice president of its consumer AI division. Farhadi previously served as CEO of the Seattle-based Allen Institute for AI (AI2) until March 12.

Farhadi joins the Microsoft AI organization led by Mustafa Suleyman. He is accompanied by top researchers from AI2 and the University of Washington, including Hanna Hajishirzi and Ranjay Krishna.

The talent acquisition aims to strengthen internal AI capabilities and reduce Microsoft’s reliance on partner OpenAI. This move positions the company to better compete with Google in the race for advanced AI models.
