Microsoft established Microsoft Frontier Co. with a $2.5 billion investment. The new subsidiary employs 6,000 staff members. Engineers and consultants will work directly within client organizations to design bespoke AI solutions. This strategy shifts the company from selling software to co-designing systems.

The initiative represents the largest forward-deployed engineering model in the software industry. The $2.5 billion commitment more than doubles a similar $1 billion program from Amazon. Frontier Co. aims to resolve bottlenecks preventing large-scale AI deployment.

Microsoft’s stock rallied on July 2nd following the announcement. Investors expect the strategy to accelerate monetization of cloud and AI infrastructure.
