Microsoft has partnered with Nscale, NVIDIA, and Caterpillar to build a massive AI compute facility. Nscale will provide 1.35 gigawatts of capacity at the Monarch Compute Campus in West Virginia. This site represents the first state-certified AI microgrid in the United States.

The infrastructure will serve as the global flagship for NVIDIA’s next-generation Vera Rubin NVL72 GPUs. This project aims to create one of the largest dedicated AI training and inference installations globally.

The development will proceed in several phases. The first tranche of compute power is scheduled to be operational in late 2027.
