At its DevDay 2026 conference, OpenAI announced plugin extensions that let developers build more integrated, app-like experiences in ChatGPT. The extensions support interactive panels, sidebar views and file viewers, making third-party tools more accessible in the ChatGPT interface.
OpenAI also launched a Plugin Creator tool to simplify development and added support for the MCP Events specification. This allows plugins to start automations in ChatGPT in response to events in connected applications.
OpenAI aims to make ChatGPT a central hub for productivity and collaborative work.
