OpenAI has launched its first branded hardware product, the Codex Micro, a limited-edition desktop keypad priced at $230. Developed in collaboration with keyboard maker Work Louder, the device is aimed at developers and power users of Codex, OpenAI's AI-powered coding assistant, which has surpassed 8 million active users alongside ChatGPT Work.
The keypad is designed to streamline the process of managing AI agents. It features customizable shortcut keys, a joystick, a rotary dial, and six backlit "Agent Keys" that display the real-time status of coding agents, making it easier to monitor and control them. This launch signals OpenAI's intent to build a deeper ecosystem around its developer tools, starting with specialized hardware to improve user workflow.
