Closing arguments have concluded in Elon Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman. The jury will now begin deliberations to reach a verdict.

Musk’s attorneys argued that Altman betrayed OpenAI’s original non-profit mission by restructuring it into a for-profit entity. The lawsuit alleges Musk was fraudulently induced to provide funding under false pretenses.

OpenAI’s defense countered that Musk was aware of the for-profit transition and is motivated by a failed takeover attempt. Lawyers argued the claims lack evidence of a binding agreement and that the shift was necessary to secure capital for AI development.

The trial highlighted Altman’s 2023 temporary ouster for allegedly failing to be consistently candid with the former board.
