OpenAI appointed Kiran Mani as its first Managing Director for Asia-Pacific. Mani previously served as CEO of Indian streaming platform JioStar and held leadership roles at Google, Microsoft, and IBM.

He will be based in Singapore starting in June, reporting to Chief Strategy Officer Jason Kwon. The newly created role signals OpenAI’s focus on high-growth markets like India, which hosts one of the largest ChatGPT user bases.

Mani will lead regional strategy and forge local partnerships to drive AI adoption. This expansion aims to strengthen OpenAI’s competitive position against rivals such as Google and Anthropic.
