OpenAI has rolled out a research preview of a new feature called Chronicle for its Codex application on macOS, available exclusively to Pro subscribers. Chronicle is designed to enhance the AI's contextual awareness by building 'memories' from recent content on the user's screen.
This feature allows Codex to better understand a user's current tasks without needing repetitive explanations. It captures screen content locally, which is then processed to create memory files that are also stored on the user's device. The feature requires specific macOS permissions for screen recording and accessibility to function. OpenAI notes that screenshots are not stored on its servers post-processing.
