OpenAI is reopening sign-ups for its $200 per month Pro subscription, but it is restructuring the plan to encourage a shift toward usage-based billing. The updated plan effectively cuts the value of included API credits in half compared to the previous offering.
The company stated the change is part of a move away from subsidized flat-rate plans. To offset the reduction in credits, OpenAI pointed to the recent launch of more efficient and lower-priced models, such as GPT-6 Sol and Luna. Additionally, OpenAI has permanently removed the five-hour usage cap for Pro subscribers, allowing them to use their weekly quota without that previous time constraint.
