Valve has announced its new living room-focused gaming PC, the Steam Machine, will start at $1,049 for the 512GB model, with a 2TB version priced at $1,349. This marks the company's second major attempt to enter the console space, following the success of its portable Steam Deck. The new machine is positioned as a high-end competitor to existing consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

Registrations for a chance to purchase the device open on June 22, with the first invitations being sent to customers on June 29. Valve is using a randomized reservation queue to manage initial orders and deter resellers. The company attributed the high price point to increased costs for components like RAM and storage.
