Beijing-based Z.ai, formerly Zhipu AI, released ZCode to compete with GitHub Copilot and Google’s Antigravity. This free desktop application utilizes the company’s new GLM-5.2 large language model. The software manages complex, long-duration coding projects autonomously.

ZCode operates as an agent-first environment rather than a traditional assistant. It independently plans tasks, edits files, and runs checks through an agentic workflow. The underlying GLM-5.2 model features a one-million-token context window for codebase-wide analysis.

Z.ai released the model weights under an open-source MIT license. This strategy targets enterprise users seeking alternatives to restricted proprietary models.
