Caturus and Mubadala Energy reached a final investment decision to construct the Commonwealth LNG export facility in Louisiana. The partners secured $9.75 billion in financing to fund the massive liquefaction project.
The facility will have a total export capacity of 9.5 million metric tons per annum. International buyers have already signed long-term supply agreements for the plant's future output.
This development responds to high global prices and supply risks stemming from Middle East conflicts. The project specifically addresses potential shipment disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.
Operations are expected to commence in 2030 to meet heightened demand in Europe and Asia. The expansion reinforces the position of the United States as the world’s largest supplier of liquefied natural gas.
