Enbridge has started construction on the $4 billion Sunrise Expansion Program in British Columbia. The project expands the company's existing Westcoast natural gas pipeline system.
Federal regulators approved the expansion in April 2026. Workers will install approximately 140 kilometers of new pipeline sections parallel to the existing infrastructure.
The project will increase natural gas transportation capacity by 300 million cubic feet per day. This additional volume will supply domestic markets and LNG export facilities, including Woodfibre LNG.
Enbridge expects the system to be in service by late 2028. Construction will create roughly 2,500 jobs. The expansion will contribute more than $3 billion to Canada’s GDP.
