German utility Uniper SE finalized a binding 20-year agreement to purchase two million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) annually. The supply will come from the proposed Ksi Lisims LNG project in British Columbia. This marks the first major long-term LNG supply contract between Canada and Germany. The deal aims to enhance Germany's energy security and resource diversification.
The Ksi Lisims project is a partnership between the Nisga'a Nation, Western LNG, and Rockies LNG. Uniper’s commitment provides a crucial step for the project as it awaits a final investment decision. The facility will use hydroelectric power to become one of the world's lowest-emission LNG plants. Deliveries to Uniper are scheduled to begin in 2032.
