Anglo American executives are scheduled to address EU antitrust regulators at a closed hearing on October 8, 2026. They plan to warn that the company may have to shut down its Brazilian nickel operation if the commission blocks the proposed $500 million sale to MMG.
The EU’s antitrust watchdog has expressed concern that the deal could divert nickel supplies from European stainless steel producers. Anglo American COO Ruben Fernandes is expected to argue that MMG is the only credible buyer and that blocking the sale would leave the company with little choice but to place the asset into care and maintenance.
