Nike Inc. faces a proposed class-action lawsuit in California. The suit, filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges the company secretly installed tracking software on Nike.com to collect user data without consent.

The complaint claims Nike embedded third-party tracking technologies, specifically naming Google and Meta. These trackers allegedly collect IP addresses, browsing data, and device information from website visitors.

Plaintiff Saleha Abdullah filed the action on behalf of all California residents who visited the site. The suit accuses Nike of violating state privacy laws that mandate user permission for surveillance technology.

The legal action follows recent market scrutiny of Nike’s performance. While the Q2 earnings report showed strong results, it highlighted persistent weakness in Greater China and softer guidance. This financial context caused a significant drop in the stock price preceding the lawsuit announcement.
