Nvidia has unveiled a new computing platform designed for space, including the Space-1 Vera Rubin module, aimed at powering orbital data centers and in-space AI applications. The new module is engineered for the size, weight, and power-constrained environments of space and is claimed to deliver up to 25 times more AI compute for inferencing compared to the company's H100 GPU.

The initiative seeks to enable real-time processing of large data streams directly in orbit, supporting applications like geospatial intelligence, autonomous operations, and scientific discovery without needing to send massive datasets back to Earth. Partners including Aetherflux, Axiom Space, Kepler Communications, Planet Labs PBC, Sophia Space, and Starcloud are already utilizing Nvidia's platforms for their space missions.
