NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang announced Thursday in Taipei that the company awaits a decision from the Chinese government. The decision concerns the import of its H200 artificial intelligence chips.
Huang corrected a Reuters report suggesting Beijing had already approved purchases for major tech firms, labeling the earlier story "fake news."
The clarification introduces uncertainty into the timeline for resuming high-end chip sales to China. U.S. export controls previously necessitated the creation of specific, less powerful chips for that market.
The U.S. cleared the H200 for sale. However, the final decision rests with Beijing. NVIDIA has not yet received any orders from Chinese customers.
