NVIDIA secured U.S. approval to export H200 artificial intelligence chips to the Chinese market. ByteDance and Tencent each received approximately 10,000 H200 processors as of August 19, 2026.

The H200 provides Chinese firms with powerful AI training capabilities despite not being NVIDIA's latest generation hardware. Current export approvals remain restricted to limited batches. Beijing is reportedly encouraging companies to deploy these chips in Hong Kong to bolster the domestic semiconductor industry.

NVIDIA stock rose in pre-market trading following the announcement. The move is expected to break a three-day losing streak for the company's shares.
